The Yankees have been on a roll recently winning 7 out of the last 11 games. They sit 2.5 games back in the A.L. East after taking 2 of 3 from the Baltimore Orioles, co-leader of the A.L. East. http://espn.go.com/mlb/standings. Their next couple series look easy on paper as they face the Blue Jays, Cincinatti Reds, K.C. Royals, Oakland Athletics, and the L.A. Angels to finish out the month of May. It looks like they're finally going on a roll and could finish this month strong and in first place in their division. If that happens, then they'll carry that confidence into the summer and ride first place all the way to the end. It's pretty much their division to lose this year, as they have the most complete team between them, the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Orioles, and Rays. If they continue this streak then at the end of the season they'll be hoisting this trophy:

This weekend the Seattle Mariners come to the Bronx to play the New York Yankees. With them comes back the ex-Yankee catcher Jesus Montero. He was a good prospect that came out of the Yankees development teams and they traded him this off-season for a pitcher that is now out for the season with an injury. He should be welcomed with an ovation because he performed good last year after being called up in the middle of the season.

Recent retiree Andy Pettitte is expected to make his return to the major leagues on Sunday vs. the Mariners. He has not pitched since October 18th, 2010. Pettitte who came out of retirement in mid-March will be turning 40 in a month. He comes into a Yankee team who has struggled recently with some of their starting pitchers as two of their starting pitchers have gone down with injuries, one of them being season-ending. The Yankees started today with a record of 16-13 and 2.5 games behind first place. Their team E.R.A. (earned run average) is 4.29 which is 24th overall in the MLB. With Andy Pettitte coming in, their E.R.A. should go down and their winning percentage should go up.

Recently, the all-time saves record holder Mariano Rivera has torn his ACL while trying shag fly balls during batting practice before the Yankees game against the Kansas City Royals. To make matters worse, the Yankees lost that game 4-3 to fall back farther in their quest for the AL East's top spot. The 42-year old suffered a torn ACL and a torn meniscus in his right knee as he fell trying to shag a deep fly ball yesterday May 3rd, 2012. When asked if this was career-ending his reply was ," At this point, I don't know. At this point, I don't know." Rivera usually catches fly balls during batting practice as a way to keep in shape during the long enduring 162-game season. When Rivera was down wincing in pain, his face contorted from his obvious pain, you could see Alex Rodriguez reacting to the scene saying ," Oh my God. Oh my God."

New York Yankees. April 20-25th
Recently, the New York Yankees traveled to Boston and Texas and won 3 out of 5 games. Against those two teams, that is considered pretty good in regard to how the Rangers and Red Sox have played the last couple of years. The Yankees went to Boston and played the Red Sox last Friday and Saturday winning both games with a combined score of 21-11. They spoiled the Red Sox 100 year anniversary of their stadium winning on Friday with a score of 6-2. Alex Rodriguez, Nick Swisher, Eric Chavez, and Russel Martin hit a combined 5 home runs as Ivan Nova picked up his 15th consecutive regular-season decision, allowing two runs on seven hits with no walks and five strikeouts in six innings. The next day, the New York Yankees came from behind and won 15-9 after being down 9-0. They scored 7 runs in consecutive innings as it tied their bast comeback in team history. The Yankees lost 2 out of 3 to the Rangers with a combined score of 13-10. They won the first game but lost the last two as they could not get their bats going and scored only 3 combined runs in the final two games. The Yankees' season looks promising as they have faced some of the top teams so far and have fared pretty good against them with the exception of the Rangers. If they play to their potential and display their full talent then they have the possibility of becoming the World Series champions this year.
